Moots
Mooting is one of the best ways to improve your written and oral advocacy, legal research skills and to see what life would be like as a lawyer. Therefore, we highly encourage students from all years and degrees to get involved with our competitions.
This year, we have expanded our advocacy calendar to include moots on as many different practice areas as possible. In addition to our in-person moots, we are conducting some of our moots online. Some of the prizes for our internal moots include mini-pupillages at reputed chambers. No matter what you are interested in, there will be a moot for you to get involved with!
Advertisements for moots will be posted a few weeks before the deadline to sign up for the moot. Just fill in the sign-up form for the moot on the website or social media and we'll get back to you. Remember that spaces on our moots fill up quickly and members of KCLBMS get preference over non-members in the selection process for moots. Follow us on social media to keep up with our latest announcements.
We will also be sending teams to a variety of external moots. Notices to sign up for these moots will be posted on social media. At a glance, these are some of the moots that we will be sending participants for:
ESU-Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition
BPP Advocate of the Year
BPP National Speed Mooting Competition
Francis Taylor Building - Kingsland Cup and Prize Moot
LSE - Featherstone Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Moot
Landmark Chambers Property Moot
In addition to this, KCLBMS has attempted to broaden the opportunities for students who would like to participate in external moots and compete with students from other universities. We will be holding a number of University-University 'friendly' moots. These will potentially include:
Oxford Brookes - KCL Intervarsity Moot
Bristol - KCL Intervarsity Moot
QUB - KCL Intervarsity Moot
Cambridge - KCL Intervarsity Moot
UCL - KLC Intervarsity Moot
LSE - KCL Intervarsity Moot
KCL - QMUL Intervarsity Moot
If you would like more information on our moots or advocacy programme this year, please do not hesitate to contact one of our mooting officers at moots@kclbms.org
